#Awesomesauce ~ The things that make you squeal with delight and feel happy all over. Magical things that make life more than just OK. That special something you look forward to all day. The subject that gets you so excited you can’t stop talking about it or the words of wisdom that inspire you and suddenly everything makes sense.

#Awesomesauce can be your favorite dessert, sleeping on silk sheets, the killer new outfit, an enlightening cosmic connection or a delicious carnal encounter. It’s the thing you were born to do, the story or photo in your stream that makes you laugh until your sides hurt, or the knowledge that your favorite person in the world loves YOU. It’s the song that makes your feet wiggle until you just have to get up and dance. It’s a special gift when you least expect it, or a screaming electric guitar riff that propels you into the air making you jump up and down playing air guitar with wild abandon.

#Awesomsauce is hearing someone sing the c<@p out of a song you love or play an instrument in a totally new and unexpected way. It’s the drink that tastes so good you savor every sip letting it slowly melt in your mouth because it is too delicious to swallow. It’s the thing that’s just so cute you can hardly stand it and you have to share with everyone.

(Oh, look! It’s a puppy holding a kitten!)

Awesomesauce is the feeling you get when you realize you’ve just found the perfect gift for someone special or the amazing rush you get when you see your baby laugh with delight and then look over at you with the biggest eyes you’ve ever seen.

Marley Diaz is Changing the World with Her 1000 Black Girl Books Movement

11 year old Marley Diaz has launched a book drive #1000blackgirlsbooks seeking books for kids where the lead character is a young girl of color. Her project is a part of the GrassROOTS Community Foundation Super Camp for girls, which her mother, Janice helped to co-found.

Marley started this movement in reaction to the fact that all the books she was required to read for school were about white boys and dogs, hardly a fair representation of what children will relate to these days. Unintentional (we hope) biases like this can’t help but shape the world view and perception of what is important in young developing minds. If you only read about white boys, how can you not come to think that somehow they are the only ones who matter? And how would you not start to get bored and look around for something you more easily relate to?
